"Like you, I consider myself fortunate to live in the Volusia-Flagler area. As Ormond
Beach Mayor since 2002, I have always made an effort to "give back" to the
community that has blessed my family. I make it a policy to do "the right thing" no
matter the political consequences which, combined with principled leadership, has
prepared Ormond Beach to weather the financial storm we all face.
As Mayor, I have been a hard-working representative on several regional and state
planning and governmental initiatives. I am known as a positive, strategic thinker
with the highest degree of integrity. I have earned the respect of other leaders
because I did not focus on Ormond Beach alone, but supported what was best for
the Volusia-Flagler area and Florida. I’ve served as Chairman of the Volusia Council
of Governments (VCOG) and the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). I have
served on VCOG’s Tax Reform and Smart Growth Committees, as well as the
Florida League of Cities’ Intergovernmental Relations and Finance & Taxation
Committees. I am honored to have been selected as the Volusia League of Cities
Elected Official of the Year in 2007 and to be the only mayor appointed by Governor
Crist to serve on the Florida Legislative Committee on Intergovernmental Relations
which also includes members of the Florida House and the Florida Senate.
As evidenced by some of the committees on which I have chosen to serve, my focus
and passions center on tax reform, education, health care, economic development
and intergovernmental relations. These are best addressed at the state level. Therefore
I am running for the District 26 seat in the Florida House of Representatives in 2010.
I hope I have earned your support!"
