Let's send the most qualified candidate to Tallahassee!

After graduating from Edgewater High School, I was the fourth generation of
my family to attend Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa where I saw snow
for the first time. I attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry
(Florida did not yet have a dental school) where I met Linda, my wife of 36
years. After serving in the United States Air Force, we choose Ormond
Beach as the place to set-up practice and raise our family. Linda and I have
three children and four grandchildren.
In addition to coaching soccer and teaching Sunday school, I became
President of Ortona Kiwanis, President of the Volusia-Flagler Dental
Association and President of my church congregation. I served as Chairman
of the Ormond Beach Planning Board and the Ormond Beach Development
Review Board.
In 1999 when the candidate I supported for Ormond Beach City
Commissioner had open-heart surgery, it became apparent that it was time
for me to step up. I was elected Zone 3 Ormond Beach City Commissioner
in 1999, Mayor in 2002 and will have served for 8 years when my resignation
(to run for Florida House of Representatives, District 26) takes effect
November 2, 2010. I believe most residents will agree that Ormond Beach
has been well governed. Our low tax rate combined with our ongoing
infrastructure improvements have positioned Ormond Beach to weather the
financial crisis our country faces.
I am passionate about lowering government spending, education, protecting
the rights of citizens, health care and economic development. I have the
experience needed to be successful, the integrity required to honorably
represent Volusia and Flagler Counties and the passion to make the
sacrifices required to make a difference.

I was born and raised in the College Park area of
Orlando. My parents were both schoolteachers.
Education and community service were always a
part of my family. We were taught by example that
our purpose in life is to make a positive difference.
